Who is your hero? (Me 10 years from now)

Kyle Onstott

January 2020

Growing up many of us had idols we looked up to. People we aspired to be like. Professionals, actors, musicians, you name it.

The older we got the more we realized we either did not desire to live that lifestyle, or we had the misconception that we would never be able to have that level of success.

Fast forward to your current position in life... who do you aspire to become?

Personally, I aspire to become the 37 year old Kyle Onstott. The man who is more wise, who has more experience, who has learned & grow even more.

Then once I reach the age of 37 I am going to aspire towards the 47 year old Kyle Onstott. The 10 year wiser, educated, & experienced professional.

& as soon as I reach 47 you already know it’s not stopping there.

The reason I do this is because naturally I desire to be the BEST version of myself.

Every..single...day.... every...single...year.

Look forward to the future you. Strive to become the greatest version of yourself every year. You do not need to compare yourself to anyone else but yourself.

You want a real challenge?

I challenge you to challenge yourself to beat the man/woman you are today by next year in all 6 of these categories: spiritual, mental, physical, financial, emotional, & relational.

So what would that look like? Obviously depending on where you stand today in these areas of your life it will be different for everyone but an example would be -

Spiritually: reading the Bible each morning, going to church every weekend, or praying daily.

Mentally: Speaking positively about yourself & others. Using words of affirmation. Reading self development books.

Physically: Exercising for at least 30 minutes daily. Eating a healthier more balanced diet. Giving your body more vegetables. Taking your vitamins.

Financial: Budgeting. Saving. Investing. No more spending on unnecessary materialistic items. Stick to the budget.

Emotional: Say out loud 5 things your grateful for when you find yourself ungrateful, sad, or angry. Controlling your words when you are experiencing negativity. Focusing your thoughts on positive things or experiences.

Relational: mending broken relationships. Showing appreciation daily. Speaking your spouses love language. Giving to others.

These are just a few examples of little adjustments you can make. Maybe you’ve already implemented these into your life- GREAT, now find additional things you can implement as well that will keep you growing.

Forget the past. You may have been stagnant or complacent the last few years, that doesn’t matter. What matters is how you take this message and apply it to your life. What matters are the things you implement today to start growing into the person you desire to become tomorrow.

What matters is you accept the challenge and look towards the you in 10 years and when you look back at the 10 year younger version of yourself you see so much growth and development. What matters is that you become your own hero, you become your own idol, & you push to new heights & new levels for the rest of your life. The future is coming whether you like it or not. It’s up to you to be prepared and take full advantage of the opportunity that comes along with it.

There are 3 things you need every day of your life.

Someone to look up to, someone to look forward to, & someone to chase.

I personally look up to God. He has always been there and provided for me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.

I look forward to my family. They are the stronghold & foundation of my life. They are my best friends and the people I want to make most proud.

& lastly I chase my hero. The 10 year version of myself. Although I will never beat my hero, I will never catch them, that’s fine it gives me something to chase.

So today and every day, every week, every month, & every year I challenge you to be your own hero- the 10 year older version of yourself.
